Butterbean calls out Jake Paul again after £1.5m offer as boxing legend hits the gym

Butterbean has doubled down on his huge fight offer to Jake Paul ahead of his clash with Mike Tyson.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul moved to 10-1 with a dominant win over former UFC star Mike Perry last month. Despite his opponent being a bare-knuckle boxing champion, Paul downed Perry three times before recording a TKO victory in the sixth round.

The BKFC middleweight champion was a replacement opponent for Paul after the influencer’s controversial heavyweight showdown with boxing legend Mike Tyson was postponed until November due to health issues. While Paul has been criticised for agreeing to face 58-year-old Tyson in the ring - his first professional bout since June 2005 - iconic heavyweight Butterbean has no qualms about facing ‘The Problem Child’.

Butterbean, real name Eric Esch, became a cult hero in the 1990s known for his punching power, with 57 of his 77 wins coming by KO. Taking to TikTok after Paul’s win over Perry, Butterbean made the YouTuber an all-or-nothing offer : “Hey Jake Paul, would you fight me for $2m [£1.5million]? Winner takes all.”

Paul has a few months to go before facing off against Tyson on Netflix, but Butterbean has refused to back down from his fight proposal. In a follow-up post, Butterbean was filmed hitting the heavy bag before once again calling out the 27-year-old: “Jake Paul, what you waiting on? Are we gonna do this or what?”

Butterbean, 58, has long been clear about his desire to square off against Paul, having eyed him up as a potential comeback opponent since 2022. Esch retired with a 77-10-4 record but has been eager to step back into the ring for the first time since 2013 after undergoing a phenomenal weight loss regime in recent years.

The former heavyweight once weighed up to 36.7 stone (515lbs) but managed to shed 15 stone (212lbs) after working with yoga instructor and ex-WWE star Diamond Dallas Page. Butterbean claimed he was “in [the] best shape ever” last month, which has fuelled his aspirations to get back in the ring.

Butterbean first called out Paul and Tyson when asked about a possible comeback fight in 2022. “I'm not a typical boxer, I go out there to fight. I want to knock somebody out,” Butterbean said. “Jake Paul or Mike Tyson. Jake Paul runs his mouth too much, he's never fought nobody, I would love to fight him.

“I think people would like to see me and Tyson go at it, which would be a hell of a draw. Me and Tyson are actually friends but I don't mind fighting friends."
